People often ask “when should I start the Medicare enrollment process?” Most people are eligible for Medicare on the first of the month in which they turn 65. For example, if your birthday is June 30th, you’re Medicare-eligible in June 1st. If your birthday is on the 1st of month, then you become Medicare-eligible the first of the previous month.
The best time to begin the Medicare enrollment process is ninety days prior to the month in which you turn 65. You do have the three months prior to the month of your Medicare eligibility and 3 months after to enroll.
We recommend starting the Medicare enrollment process 90 days ahead of time because it does take Medicare time to complete your application and to send you a confirmation such as your Medicare A and B ID card.
