People often ask “when am I eligible for coverage with Medicare?”
Eligibility begins for most people on the first of the month in which they turn 65. If someone has a birthday on the 2nd, 3rd or even 31st of the month, they would still be eligible on the first of the month. The exception to this is if your birthday is actually on the first of the month. Then you’re going to be eligible for Medicare the first of the previous month.
If you’ve been disabled based on Social Security’s definition, you would be eligible for Medicare the 25th month after your disability. Regardless of your age you could be Medicare-eligible based on your disability.
